In chaos magic, sigils are created out of abstraction of words. These drawings invert this method as they are a form of automatic writing that instead of sentences, uses caligpaphical elements forming a net, a circuitry, almost like a neural network. Through drawing these repetitive patterns the subconscious speaks freely, creating a complex visual poem. Drawing a full piece takes up just about an entire day spent in a meditative state induced by the process. Hand gestures resembling a script: as the sigils derive glyphs from deconstructed letters, makes the mind feel like it is writing a poem, an abstract one with no real words nor even coherent letters.
For the shapes and patterns that I create, I have been inspired by the polish folk tradition of sand pouring. I mix this traditional slavic style with elements of sigils that can be seen for example in Goetia, as well as the work of Austin Osman Spare whose both artistic legacy and mystical philosophy set a fundaments for chaos magic - a system that discards pre-established traditions and relies heavily of the magician’s subconscious and ways to interact with it through the craft. In my practice I like to borrow from both modern, western mystic practices as well as elements my own slavic roots.
